A rare silver 2p coin has raised £800 for a hospital after being discovered in a donation box for unwanted change.
The 1971 coin is thought to be one of a small number of coins which were mistakenly struck in silver after the cupro-nickel blank was left inside a barrel during the minting process.
The coin was found by a volunteer in Royal Berkshire hospital’s “cash for coins” box before being auctioned on eBay where it raised £802 for the Royal Berks charity.
